Changes to US vehicle export reporting

Effective October 2nd 2014, US CBP, in conjunction with the US Bureau of the Census , now requires that export data for used, self-propelled vehicles be transmitted via the Automated Export System (AES). This is in addition to the existing 72-hour export reporting requirements.

Export documents filed and accepted under the AES will generate an Internal Transaction Number (ITN) which will need to be included on the 72-hour export worksheet when submitted to CBP at the port of exit. The catch is that only US registered companies may file under the AES. An individual Canadian importer will NOT be able to submit this documentation directly.

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with our friends at Pacific Customs Brokers to offer an AES filing service for our clients. Two forms, a US Power of Attorney, and the Foreign Principal Party in Interest (FPPI) export filing sheet will need to be completed and submitted to PCB for processing. Both forms can be found on our website by clicking here. We will continue to prepare and submit the 72 hour worksheet on behalf of our clients once the ITN has been issued.

Please note that these new requirements only reflect changes made to the US CBP vehicle export reporting process. CBSA and Transport Canada import requirements remain in effect above and beyond these changes. Vehicles will not be cleared for export without the ITN and 72 hour notification.
